In 1967, Thurman Robert and Hisako T. Roberts opened their restaurant, the Salt Lick Bar-B-Que, on the Driftwood ranch where Thurman's father was born and raised. The restaurant became a popular gathering place for locals, but it also attracted deer who would come to lick the salt and minerals in the exposed rocks scattered throughout the property. This is how the restaurant got its famous name. The Roberts couple did everything by hand, crediting the quality of their food to cooking with love and care, and they were only satisfied when the job was done right. M. Scott Roberts, their proud descendant, continues this tradition.
Totally Texas products, whether they are made in Texas, take on a familiar Texas shape, or are inspired by local tastes, remind us of everything we love about the Lone Star State. The packaging may vary, but the contents remain the same: a pack of 3, 12 fl. oz. bottles (a total of 36 fl. oz.) of all-natural, gluten-free ingredients. This barbecue sauce originated in 1967 at the Salt Lick restaurant in Driftwood, Texas, and can be used for smoking, grilling, as a salad dressing, a dipping sauce, or just about anything that requires the perfect blend of flavors.
Please enjoy this recipe, as M. Scott Roberts knows it would make his ancestors, Thurman and Hisako, very happy. Sincerely, M. Scott Roberts.
